The Old Guys spend close to 50 hours every year researching the Pinewood Derby. We look for new ideas for running the race, noteworthy Derby news and more pictures of cool cars

What are the Old Guys cooking up for future enhancements?

Storage Crate #3 – last in the trilogy. Store and provide means to carry all of our electronics and presentations equipment.

Small portion of track frame upgrade – beef up structure so parts do not move around during shipment causing assembly problems.

Trailer remodel - reorganize interior of trailer to better store our stuff.

Paint storage crates and stanchion cart.

Video cameras and mounts along track – several video cams mounted to allow instant replay and creation of pack derby DVD.

Self light for track – streetlights – system of light rigged to track to allow lighting of races when room lights are off or low to enhance projection.

Add additional aesthetics like flags, draping, and banners to enhance the look of the show.

Add Plexiglas and stripes to both track frames - obtain, fabricate and install Plexiglas side panels to track frame sections to enclose units and apply groove filler stripes to frame structure.

Main track frame modifications – fabricate and install means to store stanchion cart inside frame when in trailer.

Car return system – we are old guys and easier is better, no firm ideas but lots of thoughts.

Electronics interface – modify system currently under development to electronically tie together race equipment and presentation equipment

Convert starting gate from manual to automatically powered.

Build a custom electrical extension cord with outlets where we need them along the track.

Bar code system – method and equipment to automatically id the cars.

LED place number display on finish gate – fabricate and install led display that shows lane finish places as cars cross.

Continue to enhance pre-show and show announcing with more music variety, crowd involvement, slide presentations etc. This project goes on as long as we're around.
